BASIC GRADE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

WHAT IS THE POSITION:

To provide a high-quality Occupational Therapy service to children and
adults with Occupational Therapy requirements within Resilience and to
identify, implement and evaluate appropriate training programmes.

* LOCATION: Will be dependent on successful applicant (to cover
services in Tipperary, Kildare, Kilkenny, Wexford)

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

_ESSENTIAL_

* Hold a Diploma/Degree/Masters in Occupational Therapy from a 3rd
level institution offering a programme of study accredited by?the
World Federation of?Occupational Therapists and/or?International
Qualifications, which have been recognised/validated by CORU.
* Have a minimum of 1 year post qualification experience working as
an Occupational Therapist, to include a minimum of 6 months experience
working as an Occupational Therapist within the field of Intellectual
Disability/Physical Disability/Paediatrics/Autism.
* Experience and interest in sensory integration.
* Fully registered (or registration in process) with CORU.
* Access to a car and a full, clean driving licence.
* Availability to travel to all service locations as required.

_DESIRABLE_

* Training in Sensory Integration.
* Competent in parent, client and staff training.
* Children First Training.
* Have an awareness of restrictive practice and positive risk
assessment.
* Seating and Posture Management assessment and intervention.
* Experience in Sensory Integration Standardized Assessments such at
Touch Inventory, COMPS, COP, SOSI-M, COPr, MABC-2, SP-3D.

SKILLS AND APTITUDE

_ESSENTIAL_

* Experience of inter- or multidisciplinary work.
* Good communication (oral and written) and good interpersonal
skills.
* Experience of programme development, implementation and
evaluation.
* IT Literate.
* Ability to evaluate service needs and prioritise accordingly.
* Experience in developing and presenting training for other
professionals/carers.
* Experience of working with children and adults with disabilities
and their families, especially the following:?Autism,?Learning
Disability,?Physical and Sensory

_DESIRABLE_

* Involvement in research.
* Ability to train support workers in sensory integration and
provide consultation on the development of sensory rooms.

COMPETENCIES

_ESSENTIAL_

* Previous experience working in the disability sector.
* Ability to plan and adjust intervention plans to meet the needs of
children with physical, intellectual and/or sensory disabilities.
* Commitment to ongoing training and development.
* Ability to take responsibility for planning and managing an
independent workload with competing demands.

* To have a knowledge of Sensory Integration Intervention Strategies
such as Ayres, SI Intervention, Environmental modification,?Sensory
stimulation protocols.

OTHER

* Knowledge of disability legislation in Ireland.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

MANAGEMENT

* Organise and deliver an integrated, effective, and efficient
Occupational Therapy service to children and adults with disabilities.
* Responsibility for ensuring the delivery of an effective and
efficient Occupational Therapy Service
* Establishment of profession specific quality standards and
participation in setting and monitoring multidisciplinary standards of
assessment and intervention
* Regular monitoring and review of the OT service through caseload
management measurements
* Employee training and development
* To take a role in policy making and planning within the Teams.
* To advise the Clinical Services Manager of any current needs and
future service developments and requirements.
* To promote a high-quality Occupational therapy service and to
establish excellent working practices.
* Assist in the setting up of Case Conferences/Reviews and attend
Case Conferences/Reviews and other meetings as required.
* Regular communication with Service, Regional Managers and
Community Services Co-ordinators.
* Participation in regular team meetings.
* Maintain and promote good communication and relationships with all
other disciplines in the service, working within the agreed policy and
code.
* To be responsible for the safety and maintenance of any equipment
supplied for Occupational Therapy services.
* To be familiar with relevant regulations and standards for
residential and disability services and provide Occupational Therapy
plans and intervention in line with same.
* To participate in specialist working groups as required such as
Human Rights, Restricted Practices committees or Quality Improvement
Teams.

CLINICAL SKILLS

* Participation in multidisciplinary assessment, diagnosis, care
planning and service delivery to children and adults attending the
services.
* Assist in the setting up of multidisciplinary assessments, reviews
and other meetings as required.
* Assist in research studies and projects relating to services as
required.
* Assist in a consultative capacity to other Occupational Therapists
in the service who are providing direct services to children and
adults.
* Manage the Occupational Therapy caseload of this client group
including assessment provision and intervention.
* Work in partnership with support teams, parents/caregivers and
other stakeholders throughout all stages of service delivery ensuring
adequate support for the facilitation of service delivery and the
implementation of Occupational Therapy programmes for clients as
required.
* Provide training and guidance for service support teams on how to
effectively implement intervention plans and monitor the impact and
outcomes of same.
* Assist in the setting and monitoring of clinical standards,
evaluation of practice, quality control, clinical audit, research and
development as appropriate.
* Maintain and update professional knowledge and skills in
Occupational Therapy and be aware of current research and the
implications of this for the service through self-education, training
and professional development.
* In addition to clinical responsibility, you will be expected to
develop further areas of clinical expertise as the service demands, in
line with the organisation?s commitment to continuous quality
improvement.
* To engage in joint work with other members of the Team, Health and
Social Services and Education. This will include e.g. parent and staff
training, working with educators, therapy groups and participation in
multidisciplinary programme planning, service delivery and evaluation
as required.
* Support the principles of Person-Centred Planning and the
implementation of our PCP policies and practice throughout the
organisation.
* Development and maintenance of relevant service policies and
procedures.
* Provide guidance on environmental and sensory design as required.
* Compile and analyse KPI?s and statistics/activity returns as
required.
* Maintain correct, up to date, legally viable records in relation
to clients and other matters as required.
